Who We Are
Welcome to Forget Me Not Canine Center! We are Kelly Glazebrook and Esther Douglas, two passionate dog lovers whose paths have intertwined through a shared commitment to improving the lives of dogs and their families.
Our journey began in childhood, where our lives revolved around the joy of caring for dogs and horses. Years later, fate brought us together again when Kelly enrolled one of her dogs in Pawsative puppy classes, where Esther was volunteering. At that time, Esther was also running a puppy kindergarten and fostering dogs in need. It wasn't long before Esther inspired Kelly to dive into fostering, and from that first experience, our mission truly began.
Since then, we have fostered nearly 50 dogs between us, dedicating countless hours to learning and growing under the guidance of exceptional mentors. We’ve trained with Eileen Thorne CDBC, CPDT-KA, CAATP, SDC, MSc, local certified professional dog trainer, and benefited from the insightful mentorship of Trish McMillan, a canine behaviorist and animal shelter expert who used be director of animal behaviour of the NY ASPCA, we also completed Fear Free Shelter Certifications. These experiences have deepened our understanding of canine behavior and strengthened our resolve to help dogs displaced in our community.
Until recently, the Bermuda community only had two options to surrender their dogs, however those two options share their resources with all animals. FMNCC will focus solely on dogs. Our community is at crisis point with more dogs than available homes as well as dogs that are proving to be unsafe for our community. With the FMNCC team’s experience, education and training we are able to assess our rescues with evidence based behavioural assessments supported by a team of canine professionals, ensuring each dog is suitable and healthy for rehoming in our community. Part of our program includes “The Power of Play” which helps to not only assess a dog but helps the rehabilitation process of several behaviours that come with being a shelter dog. Using a pack of well socialized dogs who bring different qualities to the play can transform the life of their canine friend. This is something FMNCC is proud to utilize in our program.
Humane education is vital in Bermuda to ensure we as a community do better by our dogs. When people understand the importance of the human-animal bond, they take better care of their companion animals. Understanding the dog and its needs -physically, emotionally, medically, what it was bred for, where it comes from, is it suitable for your family. All of these questions need to be asked before you purchase/adopt – it is so important! Learning even the basic science about canine behaviour can help you enrich your dog's life and your relationship with your dog.
Forget Me Not Canine Center is dedicated to its mission to provide a haven for surrendered dogs, offering holistic rehabilitation, and facilitating the successful rehoming of safe dogs within our community. We believe education for our community on ethical and responsible dog ownership is key to improving canine and human welfare.
